LAUBACH ESL (English as a Second Language)

Laubach Esi is part of ProLiteracy Worldwide, the largest community-based literacy organization in the U.S. This is an all-volunteer program designed to help adult Non- English speakers learn to speak, read and write English. The Laubach organization certifies trainers to teach volunteer tutors.

Volunteer tutors attend a workshop of about 6 hours to learn how to tutor an adult who does not speak English. The tutor does not need to know the language of the person they are teaching nor do they need to have any previous teaching experience. Anyone who

speaks and reads English can teach another person. The tutor makes a commitment of time—usually 1-2 hours each week.

Laubach ESL is a very well organized, structured approach to teaching English. The workshop will provide all the information that is necessary and the materials will equip the tutor to help someone learn the language. The program teaches the adult to speak, read and write English. It alsp includes learning about culture, everyday living, work situations and citizenship.
