Renovations

In the 1930's, during the ministry of Father George Rockett, the interior of the 50-year-old church underwent a renovation project under the direction of parishioner Ed Rogero.

In 1979, the church was closed because it had become too small to accommodate the growing congregation.  The parish began to hold Mass in the new school gymnasium until the “Middle Church” was completed in April 1980.  The Old Church was now unused and deteriorating, and the parish had no money for renovations, but parishioners were reluctant to tear the building down.  They loved it - some of their families had worshipped there for several generations.  Then, in 1986 an anonymous parishioner donated $10,000 for the restoration of the church, which motivated parishioners to raise an additional $20,000.  The restoration was a labor of love for the many parishioners who participated, some of whom did actual work themselves.  The church reopened in 1986.

Another renovation effort, valued at $100,000 including cash contributions and donated services, was completed in 2000 under the direction of parishioner Beth Meyer, who focused efforts on preserving or restoring the original features and materials of the church.
