The Mandarin Food Bank Staff is proud to introduce four more of our dedicated volunteers:

MAUREEN REVELS

Maureen was born in Jacksonville.  She grew up in Assumption parish and attended Bishop Kenny High School (only one block away from her elementary school). She tells us, “I was born on the feast of the Assumption and thought everyone went to church on that day because it was my birthday, not because it was a Holy Day of Obligation.”

Maureen majored in nursing at FCCJ and UNF and graduated with a BSN. She is currently a pediatric diabetes educator for Wolfsan Children’s Hospital.

Her hobbies include: yard work, cooking and being on or in the water. Maureen and her husband Charlie have a son, Patrick.  All of the Revels can be found volunteering at the food bank from time to time.  They can be counted on to do their part for any special project that the food bank tackles.

Maureen says,” I volunteer at the food bank because I know we are able to directly impact lives.  There is a wonderful feeling when you know your work is making a difference, also, the other volunteers are wonderful and have many varied talents.  They use these talents to help provide a wonderful variety of ideas on how we can better serve our clients.”

Maureen has been a dedicated volunteer for many years. She helps to make any situation or project a smooth and easy experience with her sense of humor and caring approach.  She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our ministry.  We are very grateful to have Maureen, Charlie and Patrick Revels as part of our volunteer family.

DAVE HORNSBY

Dave was born in Pennsylvania and attended school there.  He and his family moved to Jacksonville from California in 1985.  He is an engineer and is currently Director of Engineering for Florida Rock.

Dave’s Hobbies include gardening and reading. He and his wife, Mary have three children: Josh, Justin, and Christine.

Dave began volunteering with his children while they attended St. Joseph’s School.  They wanted to collect community service hours.  As Dave Says,” They grew up and I stayed on”. Dave is also a member of St. Joseph’s Choir.

Dave says this about volunteering at the food bank,” Seeing the love demonstrated by the directors, between the volunteers, and directed at those in need.  Feeling that I’m helping the less fortunate in some small way, is why I volunteer”.

Dave is a quiet, caring, and humble man.  He can always be counted on to help.  He too has been volunteering for many years. His easy going personality and gentle smile are most welcome.  We appreciate all he does for our ministry and are honored to have him as part of our volunteer family.

VICKI MARTZ

Vicki Martz was born in Indiana and reared in Connecticut, which makes her a true “Yankee”.  She attended the University of Kentucky, majoring in Landscape Architecture.  Her husband Gary’s work brought her to Jacksonville. Their daughter, Heidi, attended the University of Florida and is now married with two beautiful children, Zachary and Sydney.  Their son, Christopher, went to college in Virginia, married and lives in Roanoke with his wife and two children, Connor and Rae Ann.  Vicki and Gary have a small lake house nearby in the Blue Mountains and visit them as often as they can.

Vicki works as a golf course architect and is privileged to be associated with Arnold Palmer.  He has given her great opportunities and support and she is one of only a handful of women with this remarkable career. Although a demanding and satisfying profession, her work takes her to beautiful places in the world that she might not otherwise have the opportunity to visit.  Not surprising, one of her hobbies is golf and the other is gardening.  She loves the outdoors.

Vicki’s church, The Episcopal Church of Our Savior is a strong supporter of the Mandarin Food Bank.  Vicki was inspired by Donna Trank who was a volunteer at the food bank for many years.  Vicki is also a member of her church’s Mission Commission, which is dedicated to “outreach” within the country and beyond.  Through this ministry, she and Gary both volunteer at Habijax, assisting with fund raising as well as building.

The Food Bank is fortunate to have Vicki as a “drop-in” volunteer.  She brings dedication and compassion to our ministry.

TRISCH BROACH

Trisch was born in Tampa. She attended Most Holy Redeemer elementary and Sacred Heart and Tampa Catholic High schools. Trisch received a BA degree in Fine Arts/Graphics from University of South Florida.

After graduation she worked at USF as University Union Supervisor at the University Center; Select-A- Seat (now Ticket master) outlet where she was responsible for building security and various student activities.  She also worked as a model and actress in commercials and in one movie as an extra.  Trisch later worked for USF Architecture Department as a part time secretary.  After moving to Jacksonville, Trisch resumed acting and modeling. She did several TV commercials and worked as a stand-in in several made for TV movies.

Trisch and her husband, Marty, moved to Jacksonville in 1988.  They have two sons, Michael (27), and Bobby (20), Michael and his wife, Amanda, will give them their fist grandchild in August.

Trisch enjoys gourmet cooking, party planning, art, crafts, antiques, furniture finishing and restoration, and gardening, (“As long as my back holds out”, she tells us), and reading.

Tricsh and her family moved to Jacksonville in 1988 and have been parishioners at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church since then. Trish is a very active volunteer, giving her time to various church groups.  She has been a “pick up volunteer” for several years.  She picks up donated bakery products from a local grocery store on a weekly basis.  She is also active in all of our special projects.  We at the Food Bank are fortunate to have her expertise in so many areas, and appreciate her loving dedication and involvement in our many projects. Trisch helps us to put the finishing touches on all of our fund raising and special projects.   She helps us to find the most stunning yet economic solutions. We are very blessed and grateful for everything she does for our ministry.
